Winter/ Dry Skin Saviours!

It is no secret that during the colder months of the year, our skin tends to get drier and more dehydrated due to harsher weather conditions and a lack of moisture in the air. I have found that specifically this year my skin has felt a lot more dehydrated and hence I have discovered a few products than can help to combat dry skin and thought I’d share!
It’s worth noting that these are products that worked for my skin (which is normal but slightly dehydrated) but may not work for you- I have therefore tried to provide a few different options! I also haven't mentioned hydrating serums like hyaluronic acid or polyglutamic acid as you can read more about those in other blog posts.
I’m going to start by stating the obvious, make sure you’re drinking lots of water. Whilst the myth that water can fix all your skin issues is false, it certainly can help to make your skin more hydrated. As a general rule, drinking 2 litres of water (or more!) a day isn’t going to hinder the hydration process.

A key step in any skincare routine is moisturiser. Whilst I am normally happy with my moisturisers, this year I found that with going on so many walks and sitting by the fire etc. I needed something that packed more of a punch. I had heard about the Weleda Skin Food constantly online but had never decided to purchase. However, after seeing some great reviews about its super hydrating properties I bought a 30ml tube to see what I thought.
Now this product is THICK! I have never used a moisturiser like it and if you have oily skin then you’ll probably hate it. But it is super hydrating. I find that to get the best out of it you need to apply it to skin that already has a bit of slip (maybe from a serum or quick mist etc.) and then I only apply it to the areas that I feel need it the most. It's also pretty fragranced if that puts you off. However, if you’re looking for hydration- this is it. Otherwise, the Lala Retro Whipped Cream by Drunk Elephant is great although more expensive and the Versed Skin Soak Rich Moisture Cream is meant to be brilliant.
Another great tip I have for dry skin is a good facial oil. I particularly love squalane which I have talked about in another blog post as it is naturally found in the skin so is good for even sensitive skin. At the moment I use the Biossance one but there are many options from other brands including The Ordinary. I also enjoy the Pai Rosehip oil and the Honest Beauty Facial Oil. Top tip- facial oils are great to protect your skin whilst on a run!

Something that is often associated with winter is dry lips. Whilst I don’t suffer with really chapped lips generally, I have a few products that I always turn to when they feel dry. First and foremost, the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm. This stuff is a life saver and ridiculously good at moisturising and repairing the lips! I also really enjoy the Lanolips 101 ointment, the Biossance Squalane and Rose Vegan Lip Balm and of course, a
trusty Nivea stick!

Finally, a great tip for on the go is a hydrating mist! Sometimes I find that when going between hot and cold temperatures and wearing makeup, my skin can look a little crispy throughout the day- I therefore always have a hydrating mist in my bag. My favourite at the moment is the Dr Jart+ Ceramidin Cream mist. This is formulated specifically for dry skin and is packed full of ceramides and plant extracts for hydration. I am so obsessed that I have it in the big and mini sizes! Two other mist options that I love are the La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra 8 mist which has super simple ingredients or the Omorovicza mists are divine if you fancy spending more money.
(I always make sure that the mists I buy don’t have alcohol as an ingredient as this can dry out your skin in the long run)

I hope this post has been helpful! Let me know if you have any questions or recommendations! And be sure to subscribe using your email to be notified every time I post!
Lots of love,
